Mosquito Coil Supplier 2027 Season Planning: Why Your Program Starts in November 2026 — The Importer's Countdown to Chinese New Year, Line Reviews and Spring Shelf Resets

·

Chinese New Year 2027 falls on 6 February. Add 30 days of production and 30 days at sea, and a 2027-season order must be placed by early November 2026. This guide counts backwards from Chinese New Year, retail line reviews and spring resets, and lists what to send your mosquito coil supplier now.

2027 Season Planning: Count Backwards From 6 February 2027

A 2027 coil program has one hard date at its center: Chinese New Year 2027 falls on Saturday, 6 February 2027. Every other date in the season, from production slots and vessel bookings to retail line reviews and spring shelf resets, has to be counted backwards from it, and the arithmetic is unforgiving.

According to EasyImex's guide to China's 2027 factory shutdown, an importer who needs 30 days of production plus 30 days of sea freight must place the order by early November 2026. SEKO Logistics' Lunar New Year planning guide adds that freight rates rise in the weeks before the holiday, so December bookings secure better rates.

Here is the countdown:

  • September to October 2026: confirm the SKU list, active ingredient and regulatory market; sign off artwork; approve pre-production samples; agree MOQ and Incoterm. The Canton Fair's autumn session in October is when many buyers benchmark.
  • Early November 2026: purchase order and deposit.
  • November to December 2026: production and pre-shipment inspection.
  • December 2026: booking and sailing, ahead of the January general rate increases and the pre-holiday cargo rush.
  • Mid-January 2027: the pre-holiday slowdown begins in China.
  • 25-27 January 2027: ECRM's Outdoor, Seasonal and Garden session in Dallas, and rolling retailer line reviews.
  • 6-8 February 2027: Chinese New Year: Malaysia's statutory holidays, against six to eight weeks of disruption for China-based supply.
  • Late February to March 2027: containers land for northern spring resets, around the National Hardware Show in Las Vegas in March.
  • 25-26 May 2027: PLMA's World of Private Label in Amsterdam, where EU retailers review own-brand ranges.

Miss the November purchase order and every date after it slides by a full retail cycle.

In this guide:

The Retail Side of the Calendar: Line Reviews, Modular Resets and the Trade-Show Circuit

Retail buyers run on a longer clock than factories. ECRM notes that retailers often plan seasonal assortments six to nine months in advance, which is why the January-March meeting season decides shelves that will not physically reset until summer or later.

Porchlight's product line review (PLR) guide sets out the mechanics: vendors are typically notified four to six weeks ahead, the decision window runs 30 to 60 days, and programs go into effect about six months after the decision; onboarding a new product at Home Depot takes six to twelve months on average. Total Retail Group adds that seasonal categories are reviewed annually, while other categories may only be reviewed once every three years.

Walmart's line reviews, as 8th & Walton describes them, are tied to the modular relay-and-reset cycle, and the outcome sets your shelf space and distribution until the next reset, often a full year, with no central published calendar. In Australia, Bunnings supplier terms allow range review agreements of up to 12 months.

The implication for a coil program is stark. A spring 2027 modular that resets in February or March was decided months ago; if you won that space, the stock has to be in your distribution center before the reset, and that is the November purchase order.

If you are pitching at ECRM's Outdoor, Seasonal and Garden session on 25-27 January 2027 or at a retailer's rolling line review, a February decision plus six months puts your program into effect around August 2027, the back half of the northern season. The samples, landed-cost sheet and compliance file you carry into that meeting need to be finished by December.

The same logic applies to the National Hardware Show in March for hardware and garden channels, and to PLMA's World of Private Label on 25-26 May 2027, where EU retailers benchmark own-brand ranges for 2028 as much as for 2027. A retail line review locks a year of shelf space; the 2027 mosquito coil season is won or lost in the autumn of 2026.

Why Chinese New Year 2027 Still Shapes a Malaysian Mosquito Coil Manufacturer's Season Planning

Malaysia's public holidays for 2027 fall on Saturday 6, Sunday 7 and Monday 8 February (the Monday is a holiday nationally except in Kedah, according to publicholidays.com.my), a statutory break of one to three days. Ask your supplier for its actual shutdown dates.

Compare the China window. EasyImex's shutdown guide puts the official 2027 break at about 4 or 5 to 12 February, with factories typically closed for seven to eight days, but the real disruption is longer. Factories begin slowing production two to four weeks before the holiday, so the slowdown starts around mid-January 2027, and they then take two to four weeks to return to full capacity, with full recovery by early to mid March. Total disruption: six to eight weeks.

A Malaysian mosquito coil manufacturer can run production through that whole window, which is a real supply-continuity advantage for any buyer whose 2026 included a lost quarter. But coil programs consume inputs that are often sourced from China, such as printed cartons and inner wraps, metal stands, some active ingredients and fragrance components, and those inputs follow the China calendar. A carton printer in Guangdong that stops in mid-January does not care that Malaysian lines are running.

That is why planning for the Chinese New Year 2027 factory shutdown is really input planning: a supplier has to buy packaging, actives and cartons for each confirmed program ahead of the mid-January slowdown and hold them against the production slot, which is only possible when artwork and quantities are locked by the November purchase order. It also means a late-January artwork change cannot be reprinted until March.

Two caveats. Vessels out of Port Klang still share the transpacific and Asia-Europe services that fill up with pre-holiday Chinese cargo, so book early even from Malaysia. And any China-sourced merchandising on your side, such as display units, holders and promotional packs, needs its own early ordering. Plan the inputs as well as the factory, and the Malaysian break becomes the advantage it should be.

Landed Cost: HS Code, Duty and Registration by Destination

Ask a mosquito coil supplier for a price and the first question back will be 'which destination?', because the ex-works figure is only the first line of the landed cost. Coils fall under HS subheading 3808.91 (insecticides).

In the United States, the eight-digit line and its duty depend on the formulation, so confirm the classification with your customs broker and check the rate in the US Harmonized Tariff Schedule. In the EU, check the duty for CN code 3808 91 in the EU's TARIC database.

Duties and surcharges have changed often, so price each lane at the rates in force when you sign, and put a tariff-adjustment clause in every 2027 contract that names the tariff line, the origin and the duty assumed at signing, and who absorbs a change.

Australia is the easiest duty line and the strictest label. Malaysian-origin goods can enter duty-free under the Malaysia-Australia Free Trade Agreement (MAFTA) if they meet its rules of origin, but the APVMA requires agricultural and veterinary chemical products, household insecticides included, to be registered before they can be legally supplied, sold or used, with labels that meet its labeling requirements.

Then settle the FIFRA route with our EPA and FIFRA registration guide and the active-substance, Article 95 and labeling questions with our EU import rules and BPR guide.

Lead Time and Freight: Book Before the January Rate Increases

Lead time is production plus transit plus the noise around both. Ocean rates usually soften after the northern peak season and then climb with the pre-Chinese New Year cargo rush and the January general rate increases (GRIs), which is why the countdown puts the sailing in December.

Origin matters too. Weather, port congestion and route changes can add days or weeks to Asian schedules, so ask your forwarder for current rates and transit times on your lane and build two weeks of slack into every delivery window. If you hold buffer stock through the season, our guide to mosquito coil shelf life and storage explains how to keep it saleable.

Demand Planning by Region: Do Not Set 2027 Volumes Off 2026 Sell-Through

The most expensive planning mistake for 2027 is to set volumes off 2026 sell-through, because 2026 has been an unusual year.

In the Americas, suspected dengue cases in 2026 are running at less than half of 2025's level, which was itself well below the record set in 2024 (see the box below). A Latin American distributor whose coil sales fell this year is looking at a trough, not a trend: dengue in the region moves in cycles, and ordering 2027 to a low year leaves no cover if transmission rebounds.

In Asia, the picture changes by country and by year, with some markets above their recent averages while others fall. Before you set volumes, check the latest dengue update from the national health ministry or the WHO regional office for each market, and size orders by country rather than by region.

A mid-season top-up is rarely realistic once transit and Chinese New Year are factored in. Plan 2027 by region: rebuild cover where 2026 was a low year, extend it where outbreaks are running, and get stock moving early for Southern Hemisphere markets, where demand climbs from September.

Program Lock Checklist: What to Send Your Supplier This Month

Planning collapses into one document: the program lock. Send it this month and the November purchase order becomes a formality. It should contain:

  1. The SKU list: coil type (wood-based low-smoke or charcoal-based outdoor), diameter, burn time, color, fragrance, coils per pack and packs per carton.
  2. The active ingredient and the regulatory market it must satisfy, because one formula and one artwork cannot serve an EU BPR dossier, a US FIFRA registration and an APVMA label at the same time; decide the destination first.
  3. Print-ready artwork with the mandatory label content in the right languages, because packaging has to be bought before the mid-January China slowdown.
  4. Quantity against the MOQ: our packaging and MOQ guide explains how formats and minimums work, and a first order sized close to a full container load improves both the unit price and the freight rate.
  5. Incoterm and port: whether you buy FOB at the origin port, or CIF or DAP to your distribution center, decides who books the December sailing.
  6. The delivery window at destination, worked back from your reset or line-review date with two weeks of schedule slack.
  7. The documents you need at customs: the HS or HTS line, a certificate of origin for MAFTA or future FTA use, safety data sheets and registration numbers.

Add the tariff-adjustment clause from the landed-cost section and, if you are dual-sourcing away from a China-origin supplier for the first time, a note on how much buffer stock you want held and where. Buyers who want to understand what happens on the line between purchase order and inspection will find the process described in our guide to how mosquito coils are made.
